WINTER OLYMPIC SPORTS: HOW TO DRESS TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Oxyburn has achieved a high level of expertise and excellence in the production of winter sports apparel.

This is due, in particular, to ongoing technological research and our close relationship with the products’ end users. In fact, mountain athletes have contributed their feedback to help finalize and optimize each of the garments offered for the cold season.

With the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics currently underway, attention is turning to the many sports practiced thanks to the colder temperatures typical of this season. We love following the competitions and letting ourselves be inspired to try out some alternative sports besides alpine skiing, which remains the most popular. Here are the main activities that take place on the snow and the specific Oxyburn products for each one.

Winter Sports

[trx_icon icon=”icon-star-empty” color=”#F88A0D” top=”inherit” bottom=”inherit” left=”inherit” right=”inherit”]BIATHLON: Competitors compete in two disciplines—rifle shooting and cross-country skiing. The challenge is to complete a set course on cross-country skis in the shortest time possible, stopping at a varying number of shooting stations; each miss with the rifle results in a penalty.

[trx_icon icon=”icon-star-empty” color=”#F88A0D” top=”inherit” bottom=”inherit” left=”inherit” right=”inherit”] CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING: Over time, two distinct techniques have emerged: the classic technique and the freestyle technique. They differ in the way leg power is transferred to the ground to generate forward momentum; both techniques also involve a series of different strides to coordinate the arm and leg movements at various speeds.

[trx_icon icon=”icon-star-empty” color=”#F88A0D” top=”inherit” bottom=”inherit” left=”inherit” right=”inherit”]FREESTYLE: This is a skiing discipline that evolved from alpine skiing through the introduction of jumps, technical sections, and various choreographed moves.

[trx_icon icon=”icon-star-empty” color=”#F88A0D” top=”inherit” bottom=”inherit” left=”inherit” right=”inherit”]ALPINE SKIING: Alpine skiing involves descending a mountain slope—which can be more or less steep—toward the valley; it is generally practiced on prepared slopes (“pistes”) equipped with ski lifts and snow grooming facilities; the “off-piste” variant, on the other hand, is practiced on ungroomed snow-covered terrain and is often associated with a related discipline distinct from alpine skiing, namely ski mountaineering.

[trx_icon icon=”icon-star-empty” color=”#F88A0D” top=”inherit” bottom=”inherit” left=”inherit” right=”inherit”]SPEED SKATING: a form of ice skating in which competitors must cover a specific distance on the ice in the shortest time possible. Typical distances are 500 m, 1,000 m, 1,500 m, 3,000 m (women only), 5,000 m, and 10,000 m.

[trx_icon icon=”icon-star-empty” color=”#F88A0D” top=”inherit” bottom=”inherit” left=”inherit” right=”inherit”]SNOWBOARDING: Freestyle is the most spectacular discipline in snowboarding. The goal of this style is to perform tricks and maneuvers by taking advantage of the terrain or artificial structures (jumps, rails, platforms, etc.). Freeride is the most profound and purest discipline in snowboarding; it consists of descending a slope in fresh snow, freely carving your own line.
