The Best with the Best. Oxyburn takes center stage at the Tour du Mont as well, offering the best compression apparel for the premier race of the summer.
We are pleased to announce that the top three men and the top three women in both the short-distance and long-distance competitions will receive Oxyburn products as prizes. This will help them perform even better and remain unbeatable in their training sessions and upcoming races. It’s a fact—almost a mathematical certainty—as evidenced by the many successes of our athlete ambassadors, such as Giovanni Gualdi, Carmine Buccilli, Chiara Gianola, Said Buodalia, ultra-trail runner Marta Poretti, and many others…
But it’s just a matter of hours now. The wait for the 23rd Giir di Mont in Premana is almost over, and on Sunday morning, the mountain pastures of the province of Lecco will welcome the onslaught of skyrunners. In recent days, the organizing committee closed registration; nearly a thousand athletes will battle it out on the trails of Premana, and bookmakers are now in full swing as they try to predict the next champions of the Giir di Mont—the successors to the duo of Jornet Burgada and Forsberg, both of whom are absent from this year’s starting list.
Who might win the Oxyburn prizes? On the men’s side, keep an eye on Michele Tavernaro from Trentino and the young Mattia Gianola, who will have the home crowd cheering him on. Also worth mentioning among the Italians in the race are Bert, Giovannelli, Longo, Varesco, Butti, Tacchini, and Pintarelli, who certainly won’t be just “spectators.” Also confirmed for Sunday’s race are the Romanians Zinca and Szabolcs, the Spaniards Rullan Estarelles and Caballero Ortega, the Swiss Delorenzi and Egli, and the German Berner. All of them will also have to contend with the latest entrants from the African continent: namely, the Eritrean 2012 mountain running world champion Petro Mamu, the strong Kenyan Robert Panin Surum, and his teammate Samuel-Njeru Karani.
As for the women’s Giir di Mont, Emanuela Brizio and her teammate Denisa Dragomir are the favorites to win among the 12 mountain pastures of Premana and the surrounding area, but along the classic 32-kilometer course with a total elevation gain of 2,400 meters, they’ll have to fend off challenges—from highly “favored” competitors as well—from multiple Italian mountain running champion Elisa Desco and Debora Cardone. Also competing, among others, will be Lara Mustat, Raffaella Rossi, Silvia Serafini, Martina Valmassoi, and Chiara Gianola.
In addition to Italy, the list of countries participating in the 2015 Giir di Mont includes Spain, Romania, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, Norway, Austria, Estonia, Malta, France, Germany, Morocco, Kenya, Eritrea, New Zealand, Australia, and Peru, for a total of 965 participants.
The race is scheduled to start at 8:20 a.m. on Sunday morning, preceded by the Mini SkyRace competitors, who will set off at 7:50 a.m. The first runners are expected to arrive in Premana around 9:30 a.m., and for those who can’t be there in person to watch the “runners of the sky” in action, RAI Sport 2 will provide nearly two hours of coverage of the 2015 Giir di Mont starting at 12:45 p.m. on Sunday.
