The event kicks off on Saturday, the 16th, with the two-day Sanbartrail in Gabicce Mare and the 72k ultratrail of the Millet Volcano Trail on the island of Vulcano, followed by numerous races on Sunday, including the Trail dei Gorrei, the Monteregio Trail, and the Val della Totte Alpine Marathon in the province of Turin.
On Saturday, the 16th, in Roccamalatina, Modena, the Trail della Riva will take place, featuring a 32k course with 1,500 meters of elevation gain and a shorter 18k course with 900 meters of elevation gain, while in Gabicce Mare, in the province of Pesaro and Urbino, the Sanbartrail Permier—a 23-kilometer trail running race with 120 meters of elevation gain—the Sanbartrail Ultraeremo, a 62-kilometer race with 1,500 meters of elevation gain starting from Carpegna, and the Millet Volcano Trail, a 72-kilometer race with an elevation gain of a whopping 5,700 meters.
On Sunday, April 17, Tuscany and Piedmont will host many of the day’s most exciting races. It starts in Prato with “Un po’ n’poggio,” a 34k race with 1,340 meters of elevation gain, followed by the Trail Zeronovecento—a 22.6k race with 950 meters of elevation gain and a 9.6k race—in Ponte Moriano, Lucca, ending in San Giuliano Terme, Pisa, featuringthe Ecomarcia dei Monti Pisani: an 18-kilometer course with 1,000 meters of elevation gain, a 12-kilometer course with 600 meters of elevation gain, and an 8-kilometer course with 300 meters of elevation gain. Also of interest is the trio of races in Piedmont, which includes the Trail dei Gorrei in Moretti di Ponzone, Alessandria—a 46k course with 2,450 meters of elevation gain and a 24k course with 1,100 meters of elevation gain—the Monteregio Trail in Fara Novarese, Novara, a 47k race with 900m of elevation gain and a 23k race with 432m of elevation gain; and the Val della Torre Alpine Marathon and Half Marathon in Turin, a fascinating race covering distances of 43k and 22k with 1,550m of elevation gain.
The only race in the Veneto region—the Trail del Brac in Valmareno, Follina, Treviso—was also beautiful and exciting, featuring three distances: a 22k race with 1,300m of elevation gain, a 12k with 500m of elevation gain, and a 6k with 200m of elevation gain. The Sanbartrail weekend continues in Gabicce Mare with the Classic, featuring a 25k course with 850m of elevation gain, while in Lombardy, everything is set for the Monte Barro Running, a 15.8k course with 850m of elevation gain, and in Forlì for the 10k Diabetes Marathon.
