Marta Poretti wins the 65k Vigolana Trail; Ilaria Fossati finishes second in the 60k Durona Trail; Ivana Iozzia takes third place in the World Mountain Running Championships Test; and Marco Ferrari finishes an excellent fourth in the first Stelvio Marathon.

VIGOLANA TRAIL 65K – The Vigolana Trail on Saturday, June 17, is not a race for everyone—at least not the long race, the 65K. Proof of this is the small number of participants: just 57, including only seven women. Credit is due, therefore, to these seven heroines: four Italians—Poretti, Zamboni, Ferrari, and Tasin—one German, Dirr, and two Czechs, Juda and Poelzelbauer. Few athletes, but despite everything, it was a true race, which saw, after 9 hours, 41 minutes and 48 seconds, Marta Poretti—an experienced ultratrail athlete from Team Tornado and Oxyburn brand ambassador—victoriously cross the finish line ahead of Irene Zamboni, who finished second at 36’50”; behind them, rounding out the podium, was Nicoletta Ferrari, third in 10h44’37”.

DURONA TRAIL 60K – Only 84 athletes registered for the long-distance race of the Durona Trail, an ultra race held in the Chiampo area, in the province of Vicenza, including just ten women. Once again, Maria Ilaria Fossati delivered an outstanding performance : wearing her trusty Kylìan shorts and Forty-Two jersey, she secured an excellent second-place finish, fifteenth overall, with a time of 8h43’36”, behind Grazia Cataldi, who won in 8h34’55”. Behind Marta was Tiziana Michelizza, who crossed the finish line more than half an hour later.

SELECTION TRIALS – The selection trials for the Mountain Running World Championships in Premana, in the province of Lecco, were held on Saturday, June 17. Starting at 6:30 p.m., the women’s race was won by Alice Gaggi, who finished ninth overall in 59’45”, followed by Sara Bottarelli in tenth place overall, who finished second in her category with a time of 59’55”: but there was also loud applause for Oxyburn brand ambassador Ivana Iozzia, who, with an excellent time of 1h01’58”, claimed third place on the podium and secured her spot at the World Championships.

STELVIO MARATHON – Credit where credit is due: on the hairpin turns of the Stelvio Pass, a brilliant Marco Ferrari also earned an impressive fourth-place finish on Saturday, June 17, during the first edition of the Stelvio Marathon. Finishing as the second-place Italian behind Gerd Frick, who came in second, Marco of Atletica Paratico led the race with character and determination, missing the podium by just over 3 minutes but finishing more than 5 minutes ahead of the sixth-place finisher, the strong Thomas Niederegger.
