OXYBURN: THIRTY YEARS OF COMMITMENT AND PASSION

It is one of Italy’s leading companies in the graduated compression sportswear sector: its business is built on knowledge, experience, research, and a firm commitment to creating a product that delivers exceptional performance and superior quality.

When it comes to running or trail running, attention is often focused primarily on personal bests, performance, pace per kilometer, shoes, and gear. Often, in fact, without much real understanding of the subject. So, you have runners who show off a new pair of shoes every month, others who are more focused on photographing their GPS data than on actually running… and then there are runners who wear graduated compression gear and, of course, runners who criticize it, perhaps without ever having tried it. So, we decided to ask Oxyburn a few questions to gain a better understanding.

Let’s start from the beginning: Is graduated compression clothing really necessary? What’s the point? Are you sure the product wasn’t created first, and then the need for it was invented?
Yes, it really does help athletes maintain high performance levels for longer by delaying the buildup of lactic acid during exercise, while accelerating its elimination during recovery and rest. It meets the need to improve an athlete’s performance and speed up recovery times: these needs have always existed… and compression clothing aims to meet them.

Okay, you say your products work… but what makes them so effective and unique? You’re not the only ones producing graduated compression clothing…
We’re clearly not the only ones, but the research and dedication we put into the design and production of our products are truly remarkable: we commit our maximum resources and draw on a wealth of know-how and technical and textile manufacturing expertise focused on high-performance products—knowledge accumulated over three decades of passion.

What do you mean by “Mixyarn”? What does “mixing fabrics” mean? Doesn’t everyone do that?
Everyone says they do it, but they rely on fabric blends and selections provided by subcontractors who, of course, focus on optimizing the production phase. We directly oversee our own production and are able to make more precise and rigorous material selections when necessary to achieve better performance in our garments—even if this goes against the most common logic of “optimizing” production costs. Our goal is maximum athlete satisfaction, not the best performance in terms of financial profits for the company—and that makes a huge difference.

But why so many different styles of socks? Wouldn’t one pair for the race and one for after the race have been enough?
Absolutely not; requirements vary depending on the intended use, weather conditions, and type of sport. Limiting the selection to just two models is too “general” an approach.

From January 21 to 23, “your” Marta Poretti will be competing in the Grande Corsa Bianca: have you heard about it? What are your expectations for Marta?
Marta always brings us great excitement and satisfaction; we always expect the very best from her because it’s in her DNA!

Can your clothing serve as a “medical aid” to help resolve issues such as strains or inflammation, to be used in conjunction with any prescribed treatment?
No, absolutely not. The mechanism of action in medical products is different from that used in our products. It would be like saying you can treat the flu with dietary supplements—they might help, but the actual treatment is something else entirely…
