Ivana Iozzia wins and impresses; Said Boudalia takes fourth place overall.

Nearly 1,000 athletes took part on Sunday, July 3, in the 10th edition of the Tre Campanili Half Marathon, one of the most prestigious mountain half marathons not only in the Brescia area: The race, sponsored by Oxyburn— which also provided the splendid race packet—saw Ivana Iozzia take first place among women and twelfth overall, while Said Boudalia finished fourth; both are members of Team Oxyburn.
In the men’s race, Paul Kariuki Mwangi—who finished ahead of the overwhelming favorite Robert Panin Saurum—and Francesco Puppi took the top three spots on the podium, but Said Boudalia, with an excellent performance, managed to finish fourth overall with a time of 1h30’50”, also taking first place in the SM45 category. The Italian-Moroccan athlete, despite the approximately 15k of uphill terrain interspersed with tough, steep descents, ran a top-notch race from start to finish: on his feet were his trusty Oxyburn graduated compression socks, which proved extremely useful during races of this difficulty, despite the intense heat.

But the heroine of the 10th Tre Campanili Half Marathon was, without a doubt, Ivana Iozzia, who had recently returned to competition after overcoming a serious illness and who, with a time of 1h39’11”, finished a full 4’59” ahead of Gloria Giudici and 8’07” ahead of the two-time Passatore winner, Croatian Nikolina Sustic. The top Oxyburn athlete, improving her time by 39” compared to the 2014 edition—in which she had finished second—was unfazed by the challenging climbs or the heat, outpacing a specialist of Gloria Giudici’s caliber, who recently placed third at the Italian Relay Championships. She wore Oxyburn’s technical graduated compression apparel.
Rounding out the Oxyburn event at Tre Campanili in Vestone, the generous race pack included both a pair of High Compression short socks —the 1465 Trail-Run Half-Cut lightweight model—and two custom wristbands, both in black/lizard and supplied by the Brescia-based company to the Valsabbia organizers. The connection between the Valsabbia Half Marathon and, more broadly, between trail running and Oxyburn is, in fact, a bond that has existed for years and grows stronger with each edition, and which has helped make the Tre Campanili… the Tre Campanili!
